When driving between Willow Point and Campbell River’s Downtown core, you’ll travel through Central Campbell River between Hilchey Road in the south and 6th Street in the north. This area is one of the best places in Campbell River itself to spend time outdoors as it spans the picturesque waterfront drive of Highway 19A to the nature-rich trails of Beaver Lodge Forest Lands.
Central Campbell River is where visitors and residents go to spend time outside.
Get Outside
Travel Campbell River’s waterfront by foot, bike, or car as the highway hugs the coastline. The Rotary Seawalk provides a flat and accessible walkway for all with views of Quadra Island, Discovery Passage, and the incredible coastal mountains on the mainland. This is one of the best places in Campbell River to view marine wildlife, or you can walk along the pebbly beaches at low tide—easy access can be found at Rotary Park, Simms Creek Pump Station, or Ellis Park. There is also a series of public parkettes and benches along the way if you’d rather grab your coffee to go—see if you can find driftwood sculptures and chainsaw carvings in this area, as well as comfy Adirondack chairs.
Make time to ground yourself in the history of our region with time spent at the Campbell River Museum, both inside and out. You can check out the website to learn about any temporary exhibitions and the space also often hosts talks and activities, particularly on holidays.
Where to Eat, Drink, and Stay
FoggDukkers Coffee is somewhat of a Campbell River institution—serving organic, fair-trade coffee that’s roasted in-house, along with ice cream in the warmer weather, right by the beach. This spot is always bustling with locals and welcomes visitors with a can’t-be-missed sign. Across the street, Big Rock Garage serves global fare—from Filipino and Japanese to Singapore and Lombard cuisine—in a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. Meanwhile, Fifty Parallel Tap and Grill truly has something for all tastebuds, while celebrating the owner’s Greek heritage too. This lively spot does seafood, salads, steak, pasta and pizzas, along with Greek classics like Souvlaki and Calamari. The taproom and patio boast sea-to-sky views, while the Acropolis Dining Room provides a more intimate, quiet spot for special occasions.
To stay in the area, there are several hotels on offer. Anchor Inn and Suites boasts unobstructed ocean views, private waterfront balconies, and a dining patio, while Heron’s Landing is a cozy boutique hotel. The Campbell River Ramada by Wyndham has both suites and rooms with mini golf and an indoor pool available for guests. There are also a series of RV parks and bed and breakfasts in the area.
