Beaver Lodge Forest Lands encompasses an estimated 520 hectares of land packed full of streams, lush ferns, tall cedars, and eye-catching larch trees. Wildlife, particularly birdlife, is abundant here. The Forest Lands were first created through a donation of 416 hectares by the Elk River Timber Company in the 1930s, and have since had more parcels of land added.

Here are our top five reasons for visiting Beaver Lodge Forest Lands.

1. Extensive Multi-use Trail System

Beaver Lodge Forest Lands are one of the best areas for multi-trail users in Campbell River. Trails are frequented by bikers, hikers, walkers, and even horse riders (keep in mind when visiting with dogs). There are flat, straight sections, while various loops and offshoots of more rooty, winding trails await the more adventurous or experienced. Beaver Pond, Huckleberry, and Butterfly are all fantastic trails for those seeking bodies of water. Trail maps can be found near most entrances and at several junctions within the forest. Plan ahead with this map of the Beaver Lodge Forest Lands.

2. Accessibility

Beaver Lodge Forest Lands are accessible for wheelchairs and strollers. While various offshoots and cut-throughs are not accessible, it is possible to traverse the much of the forest from the Trask Road access on the flat Rail Trail.

3. Forest Bathing

Thick tree cover, ferns, bracken, and other plant life, along with the tranquil sound of flowing streams and birdlife means Beaver Lodge Forest Lands is the perfect spot to try forest bathing. Breathe deeply, take your time, and let your stress melt away in quiet contemplation (bring your small stool or blanket) or a walking meditation.

4. Wildlife Watching

Beaver Lodge Forest Lands is a favourite spot for birdwatching in particular, but spawning fish, bears, and deer have also been sighted. Keep an eye on local environmental organizations, like the Beaver Lodge Trust Society and Greenways Land Trust, who host nature walks and talks throughout the year here.

5. Meet the Locals

The trails here are some of the most popular with Campbell River’s local community, including those of the four-legged kind. Beaver Lodge Forest Lands is a very popular dog-walking route, so you’ll encounter plenty of wagging tails in greeting and waves from their friendly owners. Walkers, hikers, and bikers tend to greet each other and everyone is mindful of making room to pass by on the more narrow trails.

BONUS: Bring Your Camera

Beaver Lodge Forest Lands are beautiful year-round—from fall leaves and glittering winter frost on plant life, to the first buds of spring and the lush greens of summer.

Whether you’re photographing or not, remember to keep a respectful (and safe) distance from wildlife when visiting our trails.
