One of our favourite ways to take in the full scope of Campbell River’s natural spaces, from Willow Point to the Tyee Spit, is the Greenways Loop. A full 28 kilometres of meandering pathways that take in the stunning views of the oceanfront. The loop runs along the Rotary Sea Walk, passes through downtown Campbell River, and circles back through the tranquil tree cover and creeks of Beaver Lodge Forest Lands.

As a visitor, you’ll spot bright green Greenway Loop signs around town marking the route and featuring its emblem: a frog. FROG is an acronym that also celebrates the forest, ocean, river, and greenways of Campbell River.

The Greenways Loop was created through a partnership of several local organizations including the Rotary, the Willow Creek Nature Trust Stewards, and the Greenways Land Trust, in collaboration with the City of Campbell River. The Greenways Land Trust is a local non-profit organization at the intersection of food security and conservation with projects in everything from invasive species removal and revitalizing habitats to community gardens and food forests.

Loop Day Celebrations

Time your visit just right and you’ll get to experience the bustling Loop Day Celebrations. In 2024, Sunday, June 2 is Loop Day! A full day of events showcasing the green corridors, stunning views, and community spirit of Campbell River. It is hugely popular with locals and offers a warm welcome to guests too.

The central point of the day is a fun-filled circumnavigation of the Greenways Loop with other community members—whether you’re biking, running, walking, or rolling—all wearing green clothing. There is usually a community warm-up before everyone departs at a set kick-off time, and returns for finish-line celebrations of live music, food, and a beer garden outside of the Maritime Heritage Centre beside the Discovery Pier.

Along the Loop, you’ll have the chance to enjoy four FROG activation stations where treats, live music, and swag from local businesses and non-profit organizations are available. The Loop Day Celebrations are put on by a partnership between the Greenways Land Trust, the Campbell River Community Foundation, the Discovery Passage Aquarium, the Campbellton Neighbourhood Association, the Campbell River Arts Council and the Maritime Heritage Centre; a true community get-together.

If you’re not in Campbell River for the Loop Day Celebrations, you can explore the fantastic pathways of the Greenways Loop at any time of the year under your own steam. A beautiful way to explore the biodiversity and epic scenery of Campbell River with the whole family.
