Argonaut Wharf
A Plethora of Fascinating Creatures
Night dive at Argonaut Wharf close to downtown Campbell River, on the Tyee Spit. Scuttled in 1996 as an artificial reef, HMCS Columbia now lies on the bottom of Maude Bay and hosts a collection of structures and incredible species such as Grunt Sculpins, Hermit Crabs, Sea Pens and masses of Green Sea Urchins. You may even see the occasional octopus!
Steep Island
World Class Temperate Diving
This popular diving site is known for its steep underwater wall that drops to over 40 meters close to the rugged shore. Teeming with marine life, you’ll encounter sponges and invertebrates, with clusters of Northern Feather Duster Tube worms as a signature feature. There are also large boulders on the ocean floor, where you can see Tiger Banded Rockfish, juvenile Yellow Eye Rockfish, Kelp Greenlings, Copper and Quillback Rockfish, and even large Ling Cod. Be prepared for currents requiring advanced diving skills.
