Packed full of history, today Campbellton is known for its riverfront parkettes, diverse nature trails, and a handful of thriving businesses that both locals and visitors frequent.

Campbellton offers visitors the opportunity to access the Campbell River, walk or pedal The River Route, and dine and shop all in a compact, walkable neighbourhood.

Take the River Route in Campbellton
The best way to experience this area is to rent a bike from the likes of Swicked Cycles on Spruce Street in Campbellton (or bring your own) to traverse what is known as The River Route. Opened in 2021, The River Route is an easygoing 7 km trail through quiet neighbourhood streets that connects seven different nature trails throughout the Campbellton area. It is also suitable for hikers and trail runners, with a couple of steeper hills close to where it crosses the Campbell River.
Wildlife sightings are not uncommon—from bears to eagles—so we encourage you to be wildlife aware. One of the most unique things about The River Route is its access to the estuary and Baikie Island Nature Reserve. You’ll want to seek out this area, which is relatively flat, as well as the slightly hidden public parkettes on the riverfront: The River Nook and Spruce Street Parkette. This family-friendly activity has parents and children alike delighting in the discovery of some of our infamous driftwood sculptures, like Bruce on Spruce and a series of salmon. Campbellton offers a wealth of fun “treasure hunting” for the whole family—see if you can find the new Beaver Landing installation too.
