Spark Inspiration in Indoor Arts and Culture Venues

Get inspired by local storytelling and visiting creatives in the warmth of our indoor arts and cultural spaces. Start your journey at the Museum at Campbell River with the Festival of Trees which closes on January 5, 2025, and immerse in exhibits that explore our region’s diverse history. Once you’ve become a Campbell River knowledge buff, the Campbell River Art Gallery awaits with thought-provoking artworks and cultural commentary. Visit their on-site gift shop to seek artistic souvenirs in different media.

Seek the energy of a live performance in the evenings at our community-run theatre, Rivercity Players, or the iconic pink Tidemark Theatre downtown. Both venues host plays and other theatrical performances, touring musicians, film screenings, and dance recitals. Many of our eateries also host live music from both local and visiting musicians, including open mic nights if you’re called to start the new year on stage.

Cold Ocean Dips and Alpine Adventures

Extend your stay on either side of the new year to soak up the offerings of our neighbouring communities. If you’re looking for a spot for a New Year’s Day Polar Dip, head to Oyster River and Black Creek for a visit to Saratoga Beach or Miracle Beach Provincial Park. In recent years, local groups have organized community cold dips. No matter whether you’re joining a group or dipping solo, make sure to practice water safety. The trails in this area are also perfect for a New Year’s Day dog walk and a visit to Shelter Point Distillery is a sure way to warm up with a local whisky tasting. Further south of Campbell River is Mount Washington Alpine Resort, offering alpine snow sports including cross skiing as well as tubing.

A drive north of Campbell River leads to Sayward, which also presents plenty of tranquil trails and is the nearest community to winter adventures at Mount Cain Alpine Park. Winter weather can change quickly, so ensure you’re prepared with winter tires, chains, plenty of warm layers and food, and check road conditions before travelling.

Campbell River Stays and Spas

Choose a local stay with a spa or hot tub on-site to rejuvenate after the holidays and reset for the new year. The mineral pool and state-of-the-art experience showers at Naturally Pacific Resort’s Immersion Spa prioritize detoxification and stress relief, and you can add on numerous luxurious treatments. The Comfort Inn and Suites boasts an on-site pool and hot tub, while the waterfront Anchor Inn is home to The Coconut Spa (Thai Massage and Wellness Centre) and a swimming pool. If the novelty and homey atmosphere of a picturesque cabin in nature is more your style, head to Dolphins Resort, Thunderbird RV Park, or Brown’s Bay Resort.
