We’ve been inspired these past few weeks by the efforts of locals and celebrities like John Krasinski to help spread the good news that is happening in the world. Of course, we look at it with a Campbell River lense, celebrating local businesses and organizations who have been doing an amazing job of pivoting and focusing their efforts and resources on helping our community through this uncertain time. We are proud to call this close-knit community full of helpers, our home, we have compiled a list of what actions people are taking to help us through. Read on to see how many are ‘Givin’er in the River and showing us all the strength of community.
Local Distilleries like Shelter Point in Oyster River & South-End Farms on Quadra have pivoted to produce much-needed hand sanitizer. Shelter Point just recently donated 2,000 litres of Hand Sanitizer to the Vancouver General Hospital!
Local Businesses like the All in One Party Shop & Blue Spruce Ice Cream have stepped up to help keep the spirits of our health care workers up.
While tours can’t run right now Homalco Wildlife and Cultural Tours have put their boats to work by engaging their nation and partnering with the Naut’samawt Tribal Council as well as other industry partners to provide support to remote First Nations Communities by delivering supplies and helping where they can.
Volunteer Campbell River quickly came up with solutions to help seniors who may be feeling especially isolated as a result of COVID-19. They are asking for volunteers to talk on the phone or video chat with seniors during the week.
Local Businessman Sukhy Bains bought $2,000 worth of groceries from Discovery Foods to donate to the Campbell River Food Bank
The Campbell River Car Enthusiasts showed their appreciation for our local health care workers.
Local Fishing Charter Coastal Wilderness Adventures helped make 3 Campbell Riverites Easter a little brighter, by giving away packages of smoked and filleted salmon.
Local manufacturer Poseidon Ocean Systems have started leveraging their in-house capabilities to 3D print adaptors that may allow masks to be converted for oxygen therapy uses. He’s also recruited several more of us, like Cris Fletcher, owner and operator of G2 CNC and Genesis Graphics, to help produce face shields for public servants and ‘sneeze guards’ for local businesses to protect employees and customers as they continue to operate during these challenging times.

Coronavirus has changed – everything. Yet, we know when people unite around a common cause, real and lasting change happens. With this in mind, MAY 5, 2020 launches #GivingTuesdayNow, #GivingTuesdayNow is taking place in addition to the regularly scheduled #GivingTuesday on December 1, 2020.
Some ways to Give back this week could be;
- Give to the individual organizations that you love most – no amount is too little and nonprofits need our support.
- Support healthcare workers by donating supplies, advocating for them, and staying home.
- Help out small businesses by buying gift cards or writing an online review.
- Combat loneliness by reaching out to a neighbour, relative, seniors, or veterans.
- Practice kindness, patience, and empathy, we’re in this together.
