Join us for the unveiling of five new interpretive panels accompanying the Museum at Campbell River’s outdoor Soyokaze exhibit.
Created from research into the lives of Japanese Canadians on northern Vancouver Island and the surrounding islands, the panels share stories of the families and individuals who lived and worked in the region before their forced uprooting and internment in 1942.
The panels bring forward a largely undocumented part of our local history and provide a lasting resource for learning about the lives, experiences and contributions of Japanese Canadians in communities throughout the North Island and Discovery Islands.
The unveiling and program of speeches will take place outdoors. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Light snacks and refreshments will be served.
Following the unveiling, guests are invited into the Museum to meet members of the project team and learn more about Japanese Canadian contributions to the region through the Museum’s permanent exhibits.
This project was made possible with support from the Japanese Canadian Legacies Society.
